RENOWNED mountaineer from Bastar district, Naina Singh Dhakad has once again brought glory for state and nation by conquering 6,250 meters high Mount Meritok Kangri- 3, the highest peak of Leh Ladakh and hoisting the Tricolour on it. She, being a part of the 10-member Indian team, joined the mountaineering expedition again and made the country and state proud with a new record.
As per information received, Naina Singh Dhakad, who is the first to climb three mountains at once, registered this neww record by continuously climbing for 17-hours. On reaching the peak, she unfurled the
tricolor country and sang the National Anthem. She also sang the Chhattisgarh State song ‘Arpa Pairi Ke Dhar..’ on
the peak and gave a new identity to State.
In the first step, when 10 members left for the campaign, everyone was safe from Leh Ladakh. But when they came out of the transit camp near Somorori Lake in front of Karjok village, gradually the health of the team members started deteriorating and till the time they reached the base camp, the health of 3 team members was not good. Seven members started moving forward leaving them at the base camp and Naina was the only female mountaineer.
The climbers wished to continue with Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, but had to wait in the camp due to bad weather conditions. Meals were not available and they had to drink the water in the bottle by warming it with the help of torch.
Days were passing by and the strength to bear odds was gradually decreasing. Foreigners, civilians and others went to base camp but Naina and her team stayed there for 8 days. Once again they started their journey and conquered Meritok Kangdi 3 at around 1 pm on August 18.
On reaching the top, she first hoisted the tricolor and sang National Anthem followed by Chhattisgarhi Sable Badiya and the State Song ‘Arpa Parri Ki Dhar’, Mahanadi Hai, Shringar Geet. Flag of Shri Ram and Jai Jai Kar followed by the banner of Swami Vivekananda and Beti Padhao Banner was also hoisted.
