Despite heavy rains, Nagpur Divn has lowest water stock in State

Despite record rainfall in Nagpur division in July, major dams in the division have lowest water stock in State.
As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Nagpur division received 100 per cent above normal rainfall in July which is the highest in recent years. But, the major dams in the division have just 65.4% water stock which is 16.26 per cent excess than last year.n Konkan division is leading the table with 90.10 per cent water stock. Last year, the major dams in Konkan had 83.87 per cent on this date.
Amravati division is the second in the list with 81.3 per cent water stock. Last year, the water stock was 61.08 per cent. Aurangabad (74.23%), Nashik (76.02%) and Pune (71.05%) divisions have water stock better than Nagpur division. All 141 major dams in Maharashtra have 73.97 per cent water storage so far which is 8.48 per cent excess than last year. Totladoh dam of Nagpur district which is the major water source for Nagpur city also has 85.94 per cent water storage which is a good news for the people of Nagpur. The continuous heavy rains in the catchment area of Chaurai dam in Madhya Pradesh increased the water level in Totladoh and Kamptee Khairi.
As a result the Irrigation Department of Maharashtra opened all 14 gates of Totladoh dam and all 16 gates of Kamptee Khairi recently. Like Totladoh, the water level in Kamptee Khairi dam crossed the 90 per cent mark on August 2. Gosikhurd dam in Bhandara district has 29.30 per cent water stock so far which is about 11 per cent less than last year.
Whereas, Asolamendha dam in Chandrapur district and Dina dam in Gadchiroli district have 100 per cent water stock till August 2. In Gondia district, Pujaritola and Kalisarar dams have above 70 per cent water stock. Sirpur dam has the lowest 43.21 per cent water in Gondia district. Itiadoh has 59.12 per cent water storage which is almost 28 per cent excess waters than previous year. Due to heavy rains in July, the floods were witnessed all over Nagpur division. Meanwhile, the rains took a break in the last few days.
Due to no rains in the last few days, the maximum temperature is adding discomfort to people. The Weather Department is expecting rains after August 7.
