With the demand to conduct direct election of students’ unions in all the universities and colleges across the State, the members of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) burnt the effigy of Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Malviya Chowk on Tuesday.
The entire event was planned under the leadership of the former State General Secretary, Sagar Shukla and former District Vice-president, Adnan Ansari.
Both Shukla and Ansari informed that following the order issued by Madhya Pradesh High Court, the State Government carried out student union elections in 2017 after a gap of 10 years in Madhya Pradesh. As per election result, the NSUI badly defeated the BJP government supported ABVP, following which the government continuously tries to postpone student union election making various excuses.
The student union election helps to develop leadership quality among students and make them aware about their rights. It also develop political awareness and perception. In contrary, student union direct elections are being conducted in the neighbouring States including Chattisgarh and Rajasthan. It seems the State Government in Madhya Pradesh tries to suppress the anger or dissatisfied students by postponing elections. Those who present at Malviya Chowk while burning the CM's effigy include Apoorva Kesarwani, Ahsan Ansari, Prateek Gautam, Saksham Yadav, Rohit Rajput, Kunal Khateek and others.
