Ganesh Naidu, one of the senior most theatre personalities of city, passed away at 1 am on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 82. He leaves behind two sons Tushar and Hemant. Funeral procession shall start from his residence 101, Fortune, Atharva Nagari-2, Besa-Pipla Road, for Manewada ghat where last rites will be performed at 1 pm. He was associated with Ranjan Kala Mandir, Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh, Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad, Nagpur Branch. Naidu was endowed with multi-talented personality and he might be one of the kind who touched all aspects of stage, writer, director, set designer, lighting planner, actor, critic, examiner, painter. Naidu specialised in stage decoration and he had the honour of decorating the stage for Maharashtra Bhushan award presented to Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar. He had to his credit a unique programme of short films of USA, England, Canada, France, York, Czechoslovakia, Germany and Australia etc.in 1962, under the banner of Ranjan Kala Mandir.
 
He had several awards to his credit in various plays at state level competition including for Best Acting and Best Lighting for ‘Nayan Tujhe Jaadugar’ in 1966. Deputy Chief Minister Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tributes to Ganesh Naidu, a veteran stage actor, who was the jewel of Vaidarbhiya theatre. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his condolence message said Ganesh Naidu was a big name in Marathi theatre. A multi-talented Naidu carved his own identity as a renowned lighting designer, screenwriter and director. His efforts for amateur theatre in Vidarbha will be remembered forever. Naidu’s death has caused an irreparable loss to Vaidharbha theatre movement.
