‘Agricultural education will be made employment oriented’

FOCUSING on the New Education Policy in the country, necessary modification needs to be done in the syllabus as well as method of agricultural education, stated Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur Dr Girish Chandel. Dr Chandel opined this while addressing a brainstorming session held in the university on topic ‘Improvement of Education of IGKV Degree Programmes’ on Thursday. “By ensuring necessary improvement in the quality of agricultural education, this course needs to be developed as employment and business oriented,” said Dr Chandel, elaborating that the objective of New Education Policy is to develop skilled and knowledgeable human resources. In the New Education Policy, stress is being laid on practical courses and vocational training, he added. As per the information received, massive brainstorming was held for ensuring improvement in courses of undergraduate, postgraduate and research. The session chaired by Dr Chandel was attended by the university’s senior administrative officer, professors and agricultural scientists and they tabled several proposals regarding modification in the courses. The new education system should be such that students may get practical knowledge along with theory and it should simultaneously provide them experience and help them develop entrepreneurship, said the Vice-Chancellor. The session was attended by Dean of Agricultural College Raipur Dr K L Nandeha, Dean of Agricultural Engineering College Dr Vinay Pandey, Dean of Food Processing College Dr A K Dev, Director (Research) Dr Vivek Tripathi, Dean Student Welfare Dr G K Shrivastava and others.
