Most times the cattle-owners find it difficult to monitor the health of their cattles. To overcome this particular lacuna, students of Government College of Engineering, Nagpur (GCOEN) have developed ‘Advanced Cattle Health Monitoring System(CHMS)’. Cattle-owners may find this system helpful for monitoring the health of cattles. This project of students won the Best Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) project award in the ‘Tech4Seva’ competition. The team was adjudged best among the 17 colleges that participated in the competition from Vidarbha.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) under the Ministry of Human Resources Development(MHRD), Government of India, organised the ‘Tech4Seva’ competition to nurture the young talent to make innovative projects and provide rural applications of the same. 17 colleges from all over the Vidarbha region participated in this 3-round competition. The 3rd round was held at the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology(VNIT).
The budding technocrats of GCOEN-- Gagan Pardhi, Arya Mahashabde, Nipun Mahajan and Yash Deshmukh did it under the guidance of Principal Investigator (PI) of the project and Head of Electronics and Tele Communication (ETC), Dr Rajeshree Raut made the project titled as ‘Advanced Cattle Health Monitoring System(CHMS)’. The main application of this project was for the cattle owner to monitor the health conditions of the cattle at home. The project consisted of a total of 3 devices i.e. a neck section, an ear section and a master section (The server-like structure will be at home on any wall). Cattles’ location can be checked on website. If it goes away then the master section will make beep sound and the cattle can be searched. The ear and the neck section used in the project were collectively programmed to keep a track of the temperature, SpO2 level along with GPS tracking of cattles. The readings were to be displayed on the master section, through which the cattle owner can predict any unusual thing in the health of the cattle as well as the location. Before this, the project was presented and demonstrated for the Sarpanch of Khapri and other office bearers, as a result of which the project was well accepted and appreciated. The 'Tech4Seva' competition was the qualifying step contested among the colleges of Vidarbha region. With their hard work and determination, the GCOEN students have cleared this passing stage to appear for the final presentation at IIT-Delhi.
The Principal of GCOEN, Dr R. P. Borkar congratulated and appreciated the efforts of the college team. College has handed over seven projects to the villages around Nagpur. All UBA activities at GCOEN are conducted under the leadership of Dr J B Randhawa, the coordinator, and Sunita Patil, the co-coordinator.
