A YOUNG couple allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of Mumbai-Nagpur Duronto Express near Jamtha, early Thursday morning. Identities of the deceased, whose mutilated bodies were found on the railway track, were yet to be established so far. The deceased were in their twenties. Their legs were tied to each other with a nylon rope.
Around 8 am, Loco Pilot of Duronto Express 12289 (CSMT-NGP) informed Deputy Station Manager Sachin Bhagwan Parekar on walkie talkie that he noticed a young couple jumping in front of his running train on the down track about a kilometre from Gumgaon. Parekar relayed the information to Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) immediately.
Staff from RPF and GRP station rushed to the spot and discovered the mutilated bodies of the couple.
A team of Hingna Police, led by Senior PI Vishal Kale, API Kuthe, and API D K Wagh, also rushed to the spot.
After conducting the panchnama, cops sent the bodies to Government Medical College & Hospital where the corpses were kept in the morgue. A senior officer told ‘The Hitavada’ that prima facie it may be a suicide pact. Investigations were in full swing to establish the identities of the deceased, he added.
However, he said, police were investigating the case from all possible angles. “We cannot come to any conclusion till the identities of the deceased are established,” he added. The officer said that the boy and the girl had no luggage and were in their casuals. Their cellphones also were crushed under the train, he added.
“We are also verifying the complaints about missing persons in Nagpur and other places, besides circulating photographs of the faces of the deceased boy and girl on WhatsApp groups in police circles, to establish their identities ” he said. Hingna Police registered a case of accidental deaths under Section 174 of the CrPC.
