The voters’ registration for Teacher’s constituency elections for Nagpur division will begin on October 1. Informing about the voters’ registration programme, Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector told mediapersons, on Thursday, “The programme will end on December 30 with release of voters’ final list.”
A notice regarding voters’ registration will be issued on October 15 and again on October 25. By November 7, voters can present claim and objections. The work of preparing hand-written matter and printing of draft list of voters will be completed by November 19. Draft voters’ list will be published by November 23. The competent authority will accept the claims and objections on the draft voters’ list between November 23 and December 9. Final list of voters will be declared by December 30. Meenal Kalaskar, Deputy Collector also was present at the press conference.
Ganar’s term to end in February
The term of Nago Ganar as Member of Legislative Council from Teacher’s constituency of Nagpur division will end on February 7, 2023. It was the consecutive second term of Ganar. He was an MLC from December 5, 2010 to December 5, 2016. He was re-elected to the Council from the same constituency in February 2017.
Voters’ eligibility
Within the six years immediately before the qualifying date (November 1, 2022) for a total period of at least three years, a voter should have been engaged in teaching in any of the educational institutions specified under Clause (b) of sub-section (3) of Section 27 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 by the State Government concerned as educational institutions
within the State not lower in standard than that of a secondary school. Part-time teacher can’t be treated as voters for the elections.
Good response to Aadhaar linking
Appreciating the enthusiasm in rural voters for coming forward to get their voters card linked with Aadhaar, Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector said, “In one day, 95,000 voters got their voters ID linked with Aadhaar card. Till now 9,13,395 people have done it. Surprisingly, rural voters are more enthusiastic than their urban counterparts.”
