The stir of Karni Sena at Bhopal’s Jamboree Maidan continues for the second day in support of their 21 demands, including reservation on economic grounds, stopping arrests under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act without probe. On Monday afternoon, Karni Sena officials and workers going from Jamboree Maidan to MP Nagar were stopped by the police on the way at BHEL intersection.
The protesters were shouting slogans. After stopping the protest, Karni Sena and Sarva Samaj started reciting Hanuman Chalisa. At the same time, the head of the organisation, Jeevan Singh Sherpur, has warned the Government that if anything happens to them during the dharna, it will be the responsibility of the Government. A large number of police forces have been deployed to deal with the protesters. There was also a heated argument with the police personnel while they stopped the protesters.
According to the information, the people of Karni Sena family had come out from Jamboree Maidan to garland the statue of Maharana Pratap at MP Nagar intersection. As soon as he moved from Jamboree towards MP Nagar, he was stopped by the Piplani police at the next intersection. After garlanding the statue in MP Nagar, the people of Karni Sena were planning to camp in the shed of the smart city built at the board office intersection.
Jeevan Singh Sherpur, who is leading the movement among the workers, claimed that this movement will be similar to the farmer’s movement in Delhi. We are not going to leave empty handed from here. If the demands are not accepted, then farmers and students will also join the movement. We are constantly talking to the students of the university. We are not going to vacate the Jamboree grounds. until the demand is met. We will sit in the field in peace. The activists are demanding reservation should be based on economic grounds so that the poor of all the community can benefit. Reservations should be given only once to a family (one generation). Arrests without investigation under the SC/ST Act should be stopped, and a law should also be made to protect the interests of the general category.
Notably, apart from Madhya Pradesh, Karni Sena workers from Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh have also reached the demonstration. During the protest, the workers were seen raising slogans of 'Mai Ke Lal' and 'Jai Bhavani'. People started gathering at Bhopal's Jamboree ground from Saturday night itself for the demonstration. By morning, the entire ground was filled with Karni Sena workers. The police diverted the traffic on the roads leading to the Jamboree ground. Due to the huge crowd, there was a situation of jam at many places.
