Dr Vijaylaxmi Saxena, the current General President of Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) and her husband Dr Ashok Kumar Saxena, former President are ardent science lovers. Both are associated with ISCA for last 40 years. Both feel that Indian Science Congress has succeeded in achieving its goal to a large extent--- generating interest among masses. But both strongly feel that the connect of society with science needs to be developed more aggressively. With this in mind, from Nagpur Science Congress, ISCA, has introduced Science and Society activity.

“Science Congress always kept its focus on children who carry the interest of science forward, because of which Children Science Congress has become a very important part of ISC. Nagpur Science Congress is no exception to it. My tenure is ending after this Science Congress and I am satisfied with whatever I contributed to Science,” said Dr Vijaylaxmi Saxena while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ on Sunday. Dr Vijaylaxmi Saxena, her husband Dr Ashok Kumar Saxena and their daughter Prof Navrati Saxena, Professor at California University have arrived in city. Dr Vijaylaxmi Saxena became General President in 2020. She is the fifth woman to head ISCA. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, India missed two Science Congress -- 2021 and 2022. It was to be hosted by Pune’s Symbiosis International University. When ISCA started searching for venues for 2023 Congress, some bidders came forward, but ISCA selected Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University as its host.

“Indian Science Congress has been holding Women Science Congress, Children Science Congress and Science and Communicator events. This time in city, people will witness Tribal Science Congress, Farmers Science Congress and Science and Society,” said Dr Vijaylaxmi Saxena while sharing details.

“We are not supposed to give solutions to any problem. The experts with us guide the society and it is upto the

people’s concerned to pick the right message. For example, agrarian crisis is a very vast issue. But, activity of Farmers Science Congress is not meant to provide solutions to it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking required measures to help farmers come out of their problems. Here in Science Congress, we rope in the experts who talk on issues related to farmers, tribals,” explained Dr Vijaylaxmi Saxena.
