Vidarbha women’s team crushed Goa by nine wickets to make it to the knock-outs of the Women’s One-Day Tournament being played at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati. Vidarbha, who finished their league assignments with an eight wicket win over Goa on Friday, are sitting at the top of the table with 20 points from six matches.
They have won five matches and lost only one.All the other teams have one game left. Uttarakhand are at the second spot with sixteen points. They have a game left against Maharashtra who are lingering at fifth position with eight points. However, with Uttarakhand also winning against Hyderabad, they have 16 points from five matches.
If Uttarakhand win their last match against Maharashtra, they will also finish on 20 points, but will top Group D as they had beaten Vidarbha in the league stage. In such a scenario, Uttarakhand will go straight into quarter-finals, while Vidarbha will have to play a pre-quarter-final. However, if Uttarakhand lose their last game, Vidarbha will go through to quarters as Group D top-toppers.
On Friday, Vidarbha bowlers wreaked havoc as they bundled out Goa at a paltry 70 runs from 32.4 overs.
Experienced bowler Komal Zanzad and Kanchan Nagwani shared six wickets between them to break Goa’s back. Arya Gohane took two wickets while Vedanti Salodkar and Nupur Kohale chipped in with one each. At one point, Goa were reeling at 35 for six wickets. However, the tail managed to wag for a while to add 35 more runs. Vidarbha girls had no difficulty in crossing the line scoring the required runs in 15.5 overs. Vidarbha lost Shivani Dharne (0) on the second ball of their innings. However, Vaishnavi Khandkar (34*) and captain Disha Kasat (37*) saw the team home.
