THE duo of Bhavya Rishi and Namita Pathania clinched women’s doubles crown in the ongoing Indian Audit & Accounts Department (IA&AD) Inter-Zonal Badminton Tournament being conducted under the aegis of Accountant General Recreation Club (AGRC) of the Office of The Principal Accountant General (A& E) II, Maharashtra at Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur, on Sunday. Incidentally, the two Bhavya and Namita will play each other for women’s singles title while D Sarath will take on Kartik Jindal for men singles crown.

Bhavya and Namita of Delhi Audit combined well to defeat Dipali Gupta of AG Bihar and Ningshi Hazarika of AG Assam 21-13, 21-14 in the final.

In women’s singles semis, Bhavya defeated P Nishtha Verma of DGA, Kolkata 21-10, 21-10 while Namita moved up as Shenan Christian of AG Ahmedabad sprained her ankle in the second game with score reading 17-21, 3-2.

Sarath of PDA Secunderabad set up a title clash with Jindal of AG Himachal Pradesh. In semi-finals, Sarath defeated Ajay Meena of AG Mumbai 21-15, 19-21, 21-16, while Jindal beat Aditya Bapineedu of AG West Bengal 21-10, 16-21, 21-14.

In mixed doubles category, Tushar Sharma of Delhi Audit and Barma Meena of AG Uttar Pradesh combined well to beat Sangram Chutia and Ningshi Hazarika of AG Assam 21-18, 13-21, 21-14 to set up a title clash with Benet Antony and Ashna Roy of AG Kerala who beat Gurav Deswal of Delhi Audit and Priyanka Kumawat of AG Uttar Pradesh 21-12, 21-16. In men’s doubles, Antony and Arun George duo will vie for the top honours with Iman Sonwal and Brijesh Yadav of AG West Bengal in the final. Prize distribution is slated to be held on Monday at the hands of YLP Rao, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Maharashtra at 4.00 pm.
