In view of the Model Code of Conduct, the Excise Department has started taking action against those involved in making and selling of illegal liquor. Raids were conducted at a dozen places on Sunday night. During this time, while taking action against illegal liquor distilleries in Gandhi Nagar area, six accused were detained. Here, after making the liquor, the liquor manufacturers kept its consignment buried in the ground. During the action, the team recovered 172 litres of illegal hand-bought liquor and 1650 kg of Lahan. In this, country liquor is made with the help of Mahua Lahan. Along with this, about 447 quarters of domestic and foreign liquor has been recovered from Barkheda Pathani in separate operations. Illegal sale of liquor is being done on a large scale in the surrounding areas including Barkheda Pathani of BHEL township.
 
The department officials were getting information about this for several days. During the action taken late on Saturday night, the staff recovered 42 quarters from Ajay Kevat, 56 quarters from Sahil Shinde and 15 quarters from Supak Chatterjee and cases were registered against the three accused. Similarly, another team raided house number 473 of NWE Sector, Barkheda Pathani and seized a large consignment of liquor from there. According to the staff, complaints were continuously being received against the accused Nema Rao for selling liquor. During the operation, a total of 60.12 bulk liters of liquor including 50 quarters masala, 212 pav desi plain and 72 quarters were recovered from the spot. In view of the code of conduct, the Excise Department is monitoring those involved in manufacturing, selling and transporting illegal liquor in the city. Raids were conducted at a dozen places on Sunday night and this action will further continue, said Deepam Raicura, the Assistant Excise Commissioner.
