An important meeting of Standing Committee, constituted for the Legislative Assembly elections was held in Collectorate to apprise representatives of recognised political parties about the election schedule for all eight constituencies in the district, on Tuesday. District Election Officer and Collector Saurabh Kumar Suman chaired the meeting. During the meeting, Suman said, “As per the schedule fixed by the Election Commission of India, the notification for elections in all eight legislative assembly constituencies of the district will be published on October 21. Along with publication of election notification, the process of receiving nomination papers from interested candidates willing to contest the elections will commence. The last date for filing nomination papers will be November 30. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on November 31. Candidates can withdraw their names until November 2. Following withdrawal deadline, the final list of candidates will be announced and election symbols will be allocated.” District Election Officer Suman further informed that the polling for Legislative Assembly elections will take place on November 17 and counting of votes will be done on December 3.
 
He informed the political party representatives that separate Returning Officers have been appointed by the Election Commission for each of the eight legislative assembly constituencies in the district. These officers will collect nomination papers from aspiring candidates at various rooms at the Collector’s office. The Collector also provided detailed information on the provisions of Model Code of Conduct to representatives of political parties. He said after announcement of the elections, permission must be obtained in advance from concerned Returning Officers for organising public meetings, processions, rallies and use of sound amplification equipment and vehicles. The District Election Officer said use of vehicles without permission for election campaign purposes will not be allowed. Similarly, use of private property for campaign purposes will require written consent from the property owner. Educational institutions and religious places cannot be used for political activities in any manner. The use of loudspeakers will also be prohibited between 10 pm and 6 am, even with permission.
 
During the meeting, Suman informed that this year, the distribution of polling materials to polling teams and the return of materials after polling will take place in Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University campus instead of MLB School grounds. He said a proposal for using the Administrative building in the University campus for the purpose of counting of votes has been sent for the approval of the Election Commission. Amongst those attended the meeting were Superintendent of Police T K Vidhyarthi, Deputy District Election Officer Misha Singh, CEO District Panchayat, Jayati Singh and representatives of all political parties.
