A violent altercation erupted within the confines of Central Jail and a jail inmate was stabbed by the prisoners during the clash. The incident occurred shortly after three inmates were reprimanded by senior jail officials for their ongoing quarrel. The accused have been identified as Azhar, also known as Roshan or Mauzar Khan Abdul Hameed Khan, and his brother Fardin Khan Abdul Hameed Khan, both residents of Nagpur and are lodged in the jail in a case of arms act.
The accused attacked Noor Alam Abdul Ansari (27), a resident of Yashodhara Nagar, who was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act) just last month. According to a police official, the tension between Fardin Khan and Noor Alam had escalated on Saturday when heated words were exchanged.

Jail officials warned the two about the potential consequences of their actions. They even relocated them to different barracks to defuse the situation. However, on Sunday, the duo once again engaged in a verbal and physical altercation and Azhar Khan, Fardin’s brother, also joined the fray. On Monday, senior jail officials summoned the three inmates and issued stern warnings in an effort to restore order within the prison. As they left the officials’ chamber, the trio resumed their physical confrontation. Azhar Khan whisked out a makeshift sharp-weapon made from tin and inflicted a stab wound on Noor Alam’s wrist. The jail staff ran towards the fighting prisoners and overpowered them. The weapon was confiscated by jail staffers and injured Noor Alam was admitted to the jail hospital for medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable. A case has been registered under Sections 324, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 45 of the Prison Act, at the Dhantoli police station.
