Here is a good news for consumers bearing the brunt of skyrocketing prices of pulses like tur dal, moong mogar, masoor dal and other commodities as prices of edible oil are showing no signs of hike. The edible oils that are maintaining the price levels for the past few weeks are expected to give much relief to the consumers ahead of the festive season. The edible oils prices, excluding groundnut oil, seem to be under pressure on account of lower demand and good supplies in the wholesale market, said Rajesh Thakkar, Director of Shantilal Oils Pvt Ltd, Itwari and President of Oil Merchants Association while speaking to The Hitavada. Thakkar further said that there are various factors for the decline in the soyabean oil prices like scanty demand in the domestic market coupled with steep drop in edible oil prices in the international market.
At present, the soyabean oil is imported in bulk quantities from major soyabean producing countries like Argentina, Brazil and US to meet the shortfall in domestic demand. Similarly, palm oil is being imported in huge quantities from Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. In the wholesale market, the edible prices of various varieties like soyabean oil are being quoted at Rs 1,510 to Rs 1,520 per 15 kg tin; rice bran oil at Rs 1,480 to Rs 1,490 per 15 kg tin; palm oil at Rs 1,400 per 15 kg tin and sunflower oil at Rs 1,500 per 15 litre tin. At the current levels, the edible prices are at their lowest levels and oil merchants are saying that there is no scope for further downside. There could be a marginal rise in edible oil prices considering the heavy festive season demand.
Besides this, the groundnut oil prices are being quoted at Rs 2,610 to Rs 2,620 per 15 kg tin. Their prices have not budged from the past one year on account of huge exports of groundnut crop mostly from Gujarat and other states to China. On the other hand, the prices of pulses tur dal medium quality is being quoted at 155 to Rs 160 per kg, tur dal best quality at Rs 165 to Rs 175 per kg, moong mogar at Rs 110 to Rs 116 per kg, masoor dal at Rs 84 to Rs 90 per kg and other commodities are showing significant hike in the Kalamna wholesale market for the past few weeks, said Ramesh Umate of Pratik Trading.
