On the first day of Navratri, the Congress has announced candidates for a total of 229 seats in three States for the ensuing Legislative Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. The first list of 144 candidates has been released for Madhya Pradesh. The list includes the names of several prominent leaders including former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who will contest from Chhindwara. The party has provided an opportunity to both experienced and young candidates. However, the majority of seats in the first list were single-named.

In the first list, the Congress has announced the candidate for 6 seats out of total 8 seats in Jabalpur. The names for Jabalpur Cantonment and Panagar seats have been keep on hold. In the first list, the party has fielded incumbent candidates for 5 seats in Jabalpur. However, for the Sihora constituency, the Congress party has given ticket to Ekta Thakur, a new face.

The candidates who have been given another chance are Lakhan Ghanghoria from Jabalpur East, Tarun Bhanot from Jabalpur West, Vinay Saxena from North Central, Sanjay Yadav from Bargi and Nilesh Awasthi from Patan. Meanwhile, Ekta Thakur is a new face from Sihora, who has been made a candidate by the party. It may be noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party had already announced the names of its candidates for the Assembly elections for 6 seats well in advance. The wait for the Congress party's list had been going on since then. Finally, the Congress party has released its first list of candidates, on Sunday.
