With a resolve to check the fake degree scams and curbing duplication of degrees, Rani Durgavati University (RDU), Jabalpur, has started issuing degrees and certificates having QR codes and other security features. While some universities in State are yet to introduce these security features in their degrees and certificates, RDU has started to follow the same. Now students can avail entire details after scanning the QR code. The new system has begun in university from session 2023-24. The university has started preparing more than 15,000 degrees in digital mode. Besides, Sagar University has already introduced the safety features in marksheet about two years back. Registrar of RDU Deepesh Mishra informed that university has marked changes in degree to make it safer and attractive. He said that this would help to recognise the fake degree and it can be verified anywhere in the world. He said that students from session 2023-24 will get this digital QR code degrees.

He said that after scanning the QR code of marksheet, details including name, roll no etc detail of students will be displayed. There will be also magnetic line along with hologram. The University Grants Commission (UGC) had issued an advisory to all Indian universities in 2017 and 2019 to introduce security features such as photographs of the student, hologram, QR code in certificates and degrees. This move would help in curbing malpractices such as degree duplication or marksheet forgery while creating a database for student’s personal identity. The features are supposed to be helpful for verification while providing institutes and individuals one stop access to a student’s academic documents through QR code.
