In a blistering attack on the Congress-led government in Chhattisgarh, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has accused the state’s leadership of mis-governance and misuse of resources. Thakur, Sports and Information Broadcasting Minister was addressing media press conference in Raipur. “The people of Chhattisgarh are now fed up with this government and the state’s situation where corruption and mismanagement of resources are ruling the roost,” stated Thakur, emphasising the need for change. Thakur attributed the growing support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh to the initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He cited substantial central assistance for the state’s development and a significant allocation of over Rs 1 lakh crore for the purchase of paddy from farmers. He also voiced his concerns about appeasement and communalism in the state, asserting that the government’s approach is causing distress among the public.

Thakur did not mince words when he labeled the Chhattisgarh government as one of the most corrupt in the country. Responding to a statement by Rajya Sabha MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Pramod Tiwari, Thakur challenged Tiwari’s perspective. “Perhaps he does not remember the electoral successes of the BJP in his home state,” Thakur remarked. “Amit Shah was in charge there, securing victories in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Assembly elections. It’s time for Pramod ji to wake up and face reality.” Thakur also added a touch of sarcasm when commenting on Congress’s claim that the BJP had forgotten the state in the past five years.

He pointed to the list of 40 star campaigners of the BJP and encouraged the Congress to examine its own star campaigners. He suggested that the Congress might find it challenging to provide a credible response in light of the BJP’s influential figures. Thakur said that the government’s welfare schemes have significantly benefited the underprivileged population of the country. He pointed out that these initiatives, including the free vaccination drive, were implemented without any discrimination based on caste or religion. Thakur lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring that the rights of the poor are protected and upheld.
