Major General S K Vidyarthi, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, Uttar Maharashtra & Gujarat Sub-Area, emphasized the critical significance of safeguarding the digital realm in the rapidly advancing technological landscape during his enlightening address as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony AARHANT ’23 organised by Department of Computer Science & Engineering (Cyber Security) at Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering & Management, Nagpur (RCOEM). Drawing from Major General S K Vidyarthi illustrious tenure in the Indian Army, he shared profound insights and experiences, delving into historic and significant events such as the Kargil War and the 1971 War. He shed light on the strategic and tactical aspects of these conflicts, underlining the crucial role of cybersecurity even in such intense and challenging situations. Revealing an astute cybersecurity tip, he advocated for a seemingly simple yet potent strategy - a routine of powering off smart devices for 5-10 minutes daily. This practice, he stated, could potentially thwart a significant 90 per cent of cyber threats, emphasizing the power of small yet impactful actions.
 
Major General SK Vidyarthi also recounted his leadership in various operations, including a well-known incident where he supervised the successful rescue of a child Prince trapped 60 feet deep in a borewell. Reflecting on the importance of maintaining vigilance in cybersecurity, he revealed a precautionary measure undertaken during meetings, where all smart gadgets were carefully placed outside and under strict surveillance to mitigate potential cyber risks. In a motivating conclusion to his address, Major General S K Vidyarthi passionately implored the gathering to delve into the realm of cybersecurity, assuring them that he sees a promising future within each participant. His words resonated with a call to action, encouraging all to embrace the realm of cybersecurity with dedication and excellence, reinforcing the idea that the future of our digital world lies in the hands of those willing to learn and protect.
 
The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Brigadier Suhaas Kulkarni (Retd) and Praveen Muley, Managing Director, Microscan Communications Pvt. Ltd., Pune. The ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Dr Rajesh Pande, Principal RCOEM, followed by a briefing about the event by Dr Rashmi Welekar, HOD, Department of CSE Cyber Security. Anchoring of the event was done by Dr Charanjeet Dadiyala and the inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Firdous Sadaf.
