YASHSHRI Soley’s five-wicket haul helped Vidarbha women defeat Jharkhand by 11 runs and qualify for pre-quarterfinal of Women’s Under-19 T20 Trophy. In their must-win last league match played at Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun on Thursday, Vidarbha, after scoring 142-3 in 20 overs, restricted Jharkhand to 131-7 with Yashshri returning with fine figures of 5-17 from her four overs. They will take on Madhya Pradesh in the pre-quarters at Indira Stadium, Una on November 17 with the match starting 9:00am.
Vidarbha won the toss elected to bat. Openers Aarohi Bambode (48; 48b, 8x4) and skipper Sayali Shinde (52; 46b, 8x4, 1x6) gave the team a solid start putting on 104 runs in 14.2 over before the latter departed. Riya Baniya (5) did not last long but Khushi Bhagat (13*; 9b, 2x4) and Mansi Borikar (15*; 10b, 2x4) added some quick runs in the end to take Vidarbha to a competitive score.
Jharkhand also got good start with top four making decent contributions. Ali (37), Komal Kumari (23), Pragati (18) and captain Anandita Kishor (36) all got their eyes set in. But once both openers were sent back courtesy Kanchan Kakad (1-20), who ran out Komal and then removed Ali, Yashshri took over. Trupti Lodhe and Dharvi bowled well to maintain pressure from the other end. With four wins from five games, Vidarbha eves finished second in Group B behind Karnataka, who kept their slate clean. In their league games, Vidarbha defeated Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Nagaland.
