YOUNG shuttlers from the city — Rutva Sajwan, Arav Thakre and Fizza Akbani have been selected to represent Team Maharashtra in School National Games scheduled to be held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh Rutva, all of 14, has been selected in boys Under-17 team while Arav and Fizza will represent the State in Under-14 boys and girls category respectively. Rutva is the only badminton player from Nagpur in the age group of U-17 boys group bringing laurels to Nagpur District Badminton Association. His hard work and sincere efforts have helped him achieve success. He performed brilliantly in the individual selection trials.
To make his dream come true of representing his school in School National Games, Rutva quit All India Sub Junior (U-15 & U-17) Ranking Badminton Tournament at Vijayawada, AP even after reaching the U-15 BS quarter-finals. He is being trained by Suresh Menon.
MKH Sancheti Public School Besa’s Arav and Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purhoti Vidya Mandir’s Fizza, who train at Doshi and Dayal Academy Wardhaman Nagar came out with excellent show in the State trials. Aarav defeated Sairaj Nayse 21-15 in semi-final and then went on to tame Pritam Manihar 21-18 in the final. Fizza, on her way to being selected, defeated city-mate Riddhi Tidke in quarter-final 15-6, 15-7 but lost to Sharayu Ranjane of Pune in the semi-final 21-16. Both train under international player and Indian junior team coach Ajay Dayal.
