In a public meeting held at the Mini Stadium in Naxal-affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and emphasised the need for the Congress party to win the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly polls. Kharge expressed that this is crucial to protect society, constitution, democracy and the country. Kharge highlighted the developmental work carried out by the Congress in the past, stating that they had established schools, hospitals and banks in the country. However, he noted that the BJP continued to question the Congress’s contributions. He stressed the importance of preserving the rights of tribals on issues like water, forests and land; and mentioned that the Congress had enacted laws to safeguard these rights.

Kharge criticised the BJP Government at the Centre, alleging that it had led to the rich becoming richer and the poor becoming poorer. He encouraged the people to vote for the Congress, emphasising that it was essential to strengthen the party symbol, the hand. Kharge also raised concerns about the rising prices of essential commodities, such as petrol, diesel, pulses, onions, seeds and fertilisers. He accused the Central Government of increasing inflation and questioned its policies. Kharge also addressed Prime Minister Modi’s criticisms of the Gandhi family, highlighting that none of its members had held significant political positions in recent decades.

He suggested that Modi’s attacks on the Gandhi family were unwarranted. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who also spoke, criticised the BJP on various issues. He mentioned some of the announcements made by the Congress, including a subsidy on gas cylinders and free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level. The public meeting in Sukma saw the presence of prominent Congress leaders, including Chhattisgarh Congress In-Charge Kumari Selja and others. In another public meeting at Mahasamund, Kharge continued to criticise the BJP, accusing them of spreading lies. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also addressed the gathering here.
