A municipal worker was killed after an unidentified car hit her while she was sweeping the streets, on Sunday. Deceased Maya Bharti (50), was a resident of 50-quarter area in Piplani. Bharti was a sanitation worker in Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). She was sweeping the stretch between Aakrti Eco City and Rohit Nagar bridge when the unfortunate incident took place. Locals spotted the accident but none of them could provide details of the vehicle that had hit her, said police.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) S N Sahu said that Maya was hit by the vehicle at around 5:30 am and the area was deserted at that time. Locals only spotted the vehicle but they failed to describe the model or registration number of the four-wheeler, he added. Onlookers informed police and she was taken to hospital in an ambulance. However, the doctors declared her dead on arrival, he added. The body was sent for post-mortem and a case was registered with the police. Shahpura police have launched a hunt for the errant driver. Sahu said the woman is survived by her husband Munna Lal Bharti and a son.
