Irshad pockets LIC carrom crown

 

 

 

 

 

INTERNATIONAL Carrom Federation Cup winner Irshad Ahmed clinched men’s singles title of LIC One-Day Invitation Carrom Tournament held at LIC of India, DTC Hall, National Insurance Building. The tournament was conducted by LIC Sports and Recreation Club, Nagpur with best 24 international/national and state ranking players of city. In the final, top seed Irshad of Rai Club defeated unseeded Dipak Gedam of JBC in two straight games 15-13,

25-0. First game was very tough, but Irshad made it very simple in the second. Earlier in semi-final, despite losing first game 0-25 to Nikhil Lokhande of Janta Club, Gedam made a comeback by winning next two games 20-7, 25-21. In the other semis, Irshad defeated Ishant Sakhare of Janta in straight games 17-16, 25-5.

 

Cash prizes were given to players along with trophy. Winner and runner-up got Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively. Third and fourth placed players got Rs 1000 each while those who finished from 5th to 8th were rewarded Rs 500 each. Prizes were distributed at the hands of chief guest UC Mallik, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC Nagpur Division who also witnessed the final match. Mallik congratulated all the winners. On this occasion Naval Meshram, Divisional Manager LIC, SN Narnaware, Chief Referee, Dr Smita Mahurkar, Secretary LICI Sports Club, Raju Dudhankar, Jt Secretary, LICI Sports Club were present on the dais. Abhay Naik conducted the proceedings and Abhay Pandey proposed a vote of thanks. Meera Joshi, Mamata Sawane, Milind Rambhad, Abhay Nimje worked hard for the success of the tournament. Kiran Makode, Anup Deshmukh and Raju Khandare were also present.
