Brain tumor patients to waitone more year to get painless‘Gamma Knife’ facility at AIIMS

 

 

 

THE people of the State will have to wait for one year to get the brain tumor treated in AIIMS, Bhopal for treatment with Gama Knife. At the beginning of the project, it was claimed to start by the end of year 2022.After this, the new deadline was kept on November 2023. This has also passed now. At the same time, civil work is going on till now. After its completion, the team of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board will inspect. Only after passing their site, the central government will give AIIMS the next installment for machines.

 

This is the most advanced technique for the treatment of deadly diseases like brain cancer, brain tumors.Four years ago, a proposal was sent to the Central Government for this in the year 2019. After this, the work was stuck for two years due to Corona. The work started once again from 2022.It is used mostly for small tumors present in the veins, especially for brain tumors. In this, radiation is given only on the tumor, which destroys the DNA inside the cancer cell. Gamma Knife Radio Surgery is 90 percent effective in treating brain tumors.

 

Civil work required for the Gama Knife Project is being done rapidly. This facility will start soon. This is a big project. After becoming a bunker, permission has to be obtained from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board.Only after inspection of the board committee, the machines required for the gamma knife will be imported. All machines come from different parts of Europe, said KD Shukla, PRO of AIIMS.
