THE Special Court, on Friday, remanded conman Sadiq Qureshi to the custody of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) till November 6. Qureshi was trapped by the CBI officers when he allegedly attempted to extort Rs 20 lakh from Sandeep Kumar Verma, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer, Central Railway,Nagpur by posing as a Personal Assistant to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CBI. He told Verma that there were certain complaints pending against him at the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch. For not pursuing the complaints, Qureshi allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from him.
 
After negotiations, Verma agreed to give him a part payment of Rs one lakh and alerted the CBI officers. Subsequently, the bureau officers verified Verma’s complaint and trapped Qureshi. He was arrested on charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act. Bureau officers produced Qureshi before the Court of Special Judges (CBI cases) and obtained a four-day remand for his custodial interrogation.
