Defending champions Young Muslim Football Club continued their dominating performance with another victory in the ongoing JSW Elite Division League Championship organised by Nagpur District Football Association at its Dr Ambedkar Football Stadium in Suyog Nagar, North Nagpur on Friday. The six times champions YMFC rode on the former player of the tournament Sohrab Akhtar and Fahad Junaid to beat an under prepared Big Ben Football Club 3-1 and earn three points. With this win, YMFC consolidated their position at the top of the 10-team table with nine points.
They are closely followed by last year’s runners-up Ansar Club who have won both their matches and have six points in their kitty.
As for Big Ben is concerned, the West Nagpur based team is lingering at the bottom of the table with three losses in as many games. Still, Big Ben fought hard and managed to hold the champions side from Mominpura till the 45th minute of play. They finally succumbed to the relentless pressure from YMFC in the added time of the first half when Sohrab sent the ball across the goal line after receiving a rebound from the post from the 30-yard free kick from Saquib Anwar in the 45+2 minutes. A minute later, Big Ben managed to draw parity when Abhinav Jichkar tapped the ball home after collecting the calculated pass from right from Rizwan. Into the second half, Sohrab and Fahad combined well and the former passed the ball to Sohrab who’s left-footer beat Big Ben keeper. Big Ben had a chance to score the leveller again off a free kick but YMFC goalkeeper Abdullah Ansari cleared the ball brilliantly. Junaid then scored the third goal for YMFC in the 63rd minute off a header converting a corner kick.
