SHUBHAM Dubey was one of the batters who impressed in Vidarbha’s Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy campaign that culminated in the quarter-finals this season. The southpaw showcased his power-hitting skills in match after match to earn calls for trials from at least four Indian Premier League (IPL) franchisees, it has been reliably learnt. Dubey attended the first such trials for Punjab Kings on Monday. Presence of India player and Vidarbha colleague Jitesh Sharma might have helped him gain some confidence and calm nerves. It is also learnt that Dubey, who impressed those who matters with his big shots, has been summoned by Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. Batting in middle order, Dubey scored 221 runs from seven innings remaining not out on four occasions. He scored one fifty (58*) and runs came at a strike rate of 187. 28.
 
He hit ten fours and 18 sixes (highest among Vid players). Vidarbha’s talented all-rounder Harsh Dubey, also a left-hander, who has been with Indian junior team, will also be attending a couple of trials for the cash-rich IPL. Among other Vidarbha players, who are part of IPL teams, Darshan Nalkande has joined Gujarat Giants camp. For SMAT records this season, skipper Atharva Taide, who is with Punjab Kings, was the best Vidarbha batter at sixth place with 302 runs from seven games. His top score was 97 and runs came at a strike rate of 169.66 with 36 fours and 11 maximums. With one five-wicket and a four-wicket haul, Vidarbha’s India pacer Umesh Yadav had a good tournament with the ball. He scalped 15 wickets to be the 6th best bowler in the tourney.
