AKSHAYA Zanzad and Ashwin Mokashi, members of Aqua Sports Club, brought laurels to the city by winning several medals at the Karnataka Open National Masters Games that was held at Hubli. Coming up with their best performances, the duo will represent India at the Pan-American Masters Games, Cleveland, USA. Representing Maharashtra in swimming, Akshaya won four gold and a bronze in relay whereas Ashwin won five individual golds and one gold and silver each in relays. Ashwin’s gold medals came in 200m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle.

 

He bagged gold in 4x50m medley relay and a silver in 4x50m freestyle relay. Akshaya won golds in 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly. Her lone bronze came in 4x50m freestyle relay. Both swimmers have good records in swimming during their school and college days. They take training under able guidance of senior coach Dr Pravin Lamkhade (NSNIS, Patiala) and ASCA Level 5 Coach Vishal Chandurkar. Aqua Sports Club President Mohan Nahatkar, Mangesh Gadre, Director Midland Sports Prashant Ugemuge, Vice-President Operations Midland Sports Preeti Lanjekar, Manager Operations Midland Sports Ashwin Janbandhu were among those who congratulated the medal winners and wished them luck for their coming venture.
