Newly-elected 35 Congress MLAs on Wednesday resolved to authorise All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge to appoint leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) of Chhattisgarh. A meeting of CLP was held in presence of Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge Kumari Selja and AICC Observer for Chhattisgarh and National Treasurer Ajay Maken at state Congress party office Rajiv Bhawan in State Capital on Wednesday. Talking to mediapersons at Rajiv Bhawan after the meeting of the CLP, Maken said that all the MLAs had passed a resolution, authorising the AICC President to appoint the CLP leader of Chhattisgarh. “Everyone unanimously proposed in one line that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has all the rights to choose the CLP leader. After knowing their views and taking the complete report, we will go to the Congress high command in Delhi and submit the complete report to the Congress high command,” said Maken. Maken said that he along with the Chhattisgarh Congress Incharge discussed with all the newly-elected MLAs one by one and their opinions were taken for selection of the new CLP leader, he added.
Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, former Deputy Chief Minister T S Singhdeo, State Congress President Deepak Baij, Sakti MLA Dr Charan Das Mahant, former State Congress President Mohan Markam, Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Ravindra Choubey, Satyanarayan Sharma, Tamradhwaj Sahu, AICC Secretary for Chhattisgarh Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka and other leaders attended the meeting. Former Chief Minister and Patan MLA Bhupesh Baghel, former Union Minister and Sakti MLA Dr Charan Das Mahant, former Cabinet Minister and Kharsia MLA Umesh Patel and former Minister and Dondi Lohara MLA Anila Bhendia are in race for CLP leader. It may be mentioned that Congress party won 35 MLAs out of 90 in the assembly polls.
