Security breach in Lok Sabha No passes for visitors in State Legislature

 

 

 

 

In a fallout of the security breach at the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, the State Legislature has decided not to issue viewers’ gallery passes during the ongoing winter session. Nearly 22 years since the terror attack on the Parliament, in another major security breach, two persons barged into the Lok Sabha chamber from the viewers’ gallery during Zero Hour. They released yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans. They were overpowered by MPs. Following the incident, Dr Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Chairperson of State Legislative Council, directed authorities concerned not to issue passes for viewers’ gallery in the Council, sources said. Similarly, passes will not be issued for State Assembly viewers’ gallery and premises without certain restrictions. The Legislature Secretariat reviewed the security situation in Vidhan Bhavan.

 

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Ambadas Danve raised the Lok Sabha security breach issue and  said the Government should explain what happened there. He also sought to know what precautions the State Government was planning to take in this case. Industries Minister Uday Samant, responding on behalf of the State, said that Lok Sabha sources would be able to reveal what exactly happened there. He said, the State Government would take all necessary precautions and that it was capable of ensuring the safety of Legislators. Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan called the Lok Sabha incident a major scare and demanded proper security measures at the Vidhan Bhavan too.
