Nagpur has developed phenomenally over the past 10 years due to its massive infrastructure development, strategic location and good connectivity. With this steep growth, Nagpur Zone GST collections have increased four times to over Rs 15,000 crore over this period. The city’s growth has just started and in the next 10 years Nagpur’s contribution could go up to significantly towards the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). This was revealed by Anand Sancheti, Managing Director, SMS Ltd while speaking at panel discussion on the topic Nagpur Beyond Tomorrow: Contributing to India’s USD 5 trillion economy sustainably. Sancheti was speaking at the Zero Mile Samvad organised by Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur on Friday.
Prithviraj BP, IAS, CEO-SMART City, Nagpur, Maharashtra, Arun Lakhani, Chairman and Managing Director, Vishvaraj Infrastructure were present. Sancheti further said that according to Oxford’s Economics report, Nagpur is projected to be the fifth fastest growing city in the world from 2019 to 2035, he added. Arun Lakhani said that Nagpur district has vast agriculture land and with use of latest technology reduce the carbon footprint and create value for everyone. Prithviraj BP said that Nagpur’s was ahead in infrastructure development and has advantage over other cities in country. The city needs Sustainable Development Plan for next 5 to 10 to make Nagpur livable. Prof Som Sekhar Bhattacharyya, Faculty, IIM Nagpur moderated the session.
