‘Self-reliance needed to achieve global standards’

 

 

 

 

 

 

“When you start competing globally then you have to follow global standards and achieving the standard you have to be self reliant,” said Lt Gen Vineet Gaur, AVSM, Director General, Capability Development during the Zero Mile Samvad summit held at Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur in Mihan. Lt Gen Gaur made this statement during a panel discussion on “Possibility or a Dream: Can India’s Defence become self-reliant without sacrificing Global Standards?” on Saturday. “Inclusion of private partners and start-ups in defence manufacturing sector is a positive step by the Government towards ‘Atmanirbharta’ and it helped to propel our manufacturing sector in global arena,” said Lt Gen Gaur.

 

Maj Gen Vasudhesh Arya (Retd), Executive Director, Solar Group, Nagpur, the another panellist of the session, talked about the role of Nagpur city in defence manufacturing in near future. Maj Gen Arya said, “In the era of technology the salf-reliance is most important factor for a developing country. Countries like USA and China, they never do transfer of technology (ToT) to other countries. At this situation we have the be self-reliant to develop our own technology in defence sector.” The panel discussion was moderated by Prof Shailendra Nigam, Faculty, IIM Nagpur. Prof Vaibhav Dange, BoG, IIM Nagpur was also participated in the discussion.
