Dr Prajakta first woman from city to finish Ironman Race

Dr Prajakta Nitin Aswar became the first woman from Nagpur and Central India to successfully finish Full Ironman Race in Busselton, Australia. Dr Aswar finished the race in 13 hours and 50 minutes, recently. On her way to achieving the feat, Dr Prajakta did 4 kms swimming in the Indian Ocean and then completed 180 kms cycling and 42 kms running back to back to touch the finish line in under 14 hours. Dr Prajakta did her Boards from Shivaji Science College. She then did her MBBS, MD in OBST and Gynae from MGIMS, Sewagram, Wardha and is doing private practice in Chandrapur for the last 20 years. Dr Prajakta, feat is creditable as she is a mother of a 21-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter. She took out time from her busy schedule for training for the Ironman Race. It was only because of her daughter that Dr Prajakta took to running and then started training for Ironman Race.
 
Dr Prajakta’s daughter is a state-level athlete and she used to take her for training when she developed interest in sports. Dr Prajakta also participated in Tata Mumbai Marathon and completed the run in 4 hours and eight minutes. She has also participated in half ironman in Germany and Goa and got selected for the world championship in Finland early this year which she completed successfully. According to Dr Amit Samarth, world renowned ultra-cyclist, Dr Prajakta has been training sincerely for the last three years and is participating in marathons and ironman races. Dr Prajakta thanked Miles N Milers Sports Academy of Dr Samarth and Dr Sripad Balki for helping her train for marathon and Ironman races.
