After Vishnu Deo Sai’s swearing-in ceremony as the new head of the government, people are eagerly anticipating the announcement of the cabinet and the allocation of ministerial portfolios. Despite expectations for an immediate revelation following the oath-taking, the newly established government is exhibiting political maturity by refraining from hasty decisions in this regard. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized the need for a thorough assessment before making any announcements. A senior leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commented that large-scale transfers of officials would not be executed abruptly. Instead, the government aims to scrutinize the performance of officials and make decisions based on their suitability for each department. The BJP leader further assured that there would be no vindictive actions against officers, underlining the government’s commitment to encouraging capable and honest governance. Amidst the anticipation surrounding the cabinet formation, uncertainties loom over when the decision will be made.

According to reliable sources Speculations are that the government might announce the cabinet after the first session of the assembly session where the Speaker will be elected. Many names are circulating as potential ministerial appointees, with indications that the cabinet might feature a blend of experienced individuals and fresh faces, mirroring the appointments of the CM and his deputies. A notable point of interest is whether Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will retain the finance portfolio, as has become customary in Chhattisgarh and some other states. While there are competent individuals in the new government, questions persist about who will assume the crucial role of handling the Forest Department. The portfolio has historically proven to be challenging, with ministers in the past facing electoral setbacks and, in some cases, having to forego their political careers. The lineage of Forest Ministers in both the Sundarlal Patwa government in unified Madhya Pradesh and subsequent administrations in Chhattisgarh has been marked by electoral challenges. Nirbhay Singh Patel, an efficient Forest Minister during the Patwa government, faced the brunt of electoral dynamics, losing an election and subsequently exiting the political arena.

This trend persisted with Forest Ministers in Chhattisgarh, including Ganesh Ram Kanwar, Nankiram Kanwar, Vikram Usendi, Mahesh Gagda, and most recently, Mohammed Akbar—all experiencing electoral setbacks. Brij Mohan Agrawal stands out as a singular exception, having navigated the challenges successfully securing victory in elections despite handling the forest portfolio for a relatively shorter duration. This recurring pattern of forest ministers encountering electoral hurdles, and in some cases, having to relinquish their political careers, adds a layer of intrigue to the imminent selection of the new Forest Minister. The Forest Department, deemed one of the most important portfolios in Chhattisgarh, has been perceived as jinxed, as ministers who held this position have often encountered electoral defeats. The appointment of a tribal Chief Minister raises speculation about whether this perceived jinx will be broken.
