FORMER Union Agriculture Minister and now BJP MLA from Dimani, Narendra Singh Tomar was unanimously elected as Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. On the penultimate day of four-day Winter Session of Vidhan Sabha, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav moved the motion for the election of Tomar as the Speaker which was seconded by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also moved a proposal for the election of Tomar as the Speaker which was supported by ex-Union Minister and Narsinghpur MLA Prahlad Patel.
 
Later, five more proposals, including by Opposition Congress MLAs Ajay Singh, Jaivardhan Singh and Rajendra Kumar Singh were also moved in favour of Tomar. After the voice vote, Pro-tem Speaker Gopal Bhargava declared Narendra Singh Tomar as unanimously elected to the Speaker’s post. Tomar had filed his nomination for the post on Monday with the support of the Opposition Congress. He is the 19th Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Along with this, he is the first Assembly Speaker to come from Gwalior-Chambal region. All the members of the House congratulated Tomar on his election.
 
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav congratulated Tomar and also thanked the Opposition for unanimously electing the Speaker. Yadav said that Tomar’s popularity is beyond party line. He has been equally admired by both ruling and opposition leaders as well. Leader of Opposition, Umang Singhar, former CM Chouhan and other leaders congratulated Tomar. Sharing a few incidents of senior leader Tomar's political journey several leaders including BJP General Secretary, Kailash Vijayvargiya, former Union Minister Prahlad Patel and others said that veteran leader Tomar has started his stint in politics from student life. He has always been for his attitude to bring everyone together.
