Winter Session prorogued Next session from Feb 26

The Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature, which commenced in the city on December 7 here, was prorogued on Wednesday after 10 sittings. The next session will begin in Mumbai from February 26, 2024. The announcements in this regard were made by Adv Rahul Narwekar, Speaker, in Legislative Assembly; and by Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Chairperson, in Legislative Council, on Wednesday evening. As per the details placed on record, the Assembly transacted legislative business for 101 hours and 10 minutes, which comes to around an average of more than 10 hours and five minutes per day during the Winter Session! In the Council, business was transacted for 71 hours and nine minutes, with an average per day work of seven hours and six minutes. During the session, both the Houses cleared 18 Bills.

The Assembly received total 7,581 starred questions, of which 247 were accepted, and 34 were answered in the House. This time, total 2,414 call attention motions were received, of which 337 were accepted, and discussion took place on a record 70. This year’s most talked about business was call attention motion. The 288-member House (Assembly) recorded a maximum attendance of 93 per cent, and the minimum attendance of 64.71 per cent. The average attendance during the Winter Session was 81.69 per cent. As far as the Legislative Council is concerned, of total 1,819 starred questions received, 452 were accepted, and 47 were answered in the House. The Upper House received total 623 call attention motions, of which 142 were accepted, and discussion took place on 30. The average attendance in the Council was 82.36 per cent, including the maximum 94.55 per cent and the minimum 60 per cent. The next session will be held in Mumbai from February 26, 2024.
