In a stark revelation of environmental negligence, concerned citizens and environmental advocates have written a letter to the Chief Secretary, expressing distress over the dumping of iron ore waste on the Dunkani Riverfront in Dantewada. Allegations have been made against the Environment Protection Board for its apparent indifference, leading to significant damage to the environment, ecology, and biodiversity. The citizens demand immediate action and investigation into the matter. Environmental activist Nitin Singhvi of Raipur highlighted the construction of a riverfront on one side of the Dankani River in Dantewada. The citizens claim that no environmental impact study was conducted before the construction, resulting in substantial damage to the biodiversity, environment, and ecology. Despite presenting evidence, the Environment Protection Board allegedly failed to halt the construction.

Another alarming issue brought to light is the dumping of iron ore waste on the banks of the Dunkani River. Singhvi asserts that, despite presenting evidence of this activity on November 6, 2023, the Environment Protection Board did not take immediate action. Approximately 35,000 tons of iron ore waste was dumped, with ongoing dumping activities, causing further harm to the environment and biodiversity. Singhvi raised concerns about the delayed response from the Environment Protection Board. He reported that, on December 20, after 44 days of the initial complaint, the board requested a report from its Regional Officer in Jagdalpur regarding the riverfront construction. Similarly, it took 52 days for the board to seek a report on iron ore waste dumping. Singhvi referenced a previous incident in 2021 when iron ore dumping and the construction of a wall on the river bed were reported. A PIL was filed, and the High Court ordered a resolution.

However, Singhvi claims that the Environment Protection Board, instead of addressing the concerns, sought a report from its Regional Officer, allowing the matter to be brushed aside. In the letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Singhvi and concerned citizens demand an investigation against the Regional Officer in Jagdalpur. They call for accountability for those responsible and insist that the Environment Protection Board abandon its indifferent stance. Immediate action is sought whenever complaints are raised, and the board is urged to fulfill its responsibilities diligently
