“Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation’s (MSIDC) role will be crucial in bringing to reality the dream of $ 1 trillion economy of State. The goal thus is to identify and develop key infrastructure projects as same would be game changer for Maharashtra’s economy and that in turn would spur development of country,” stated Dr Brijesh Dixit, MD, MSIDC. In the city for a series of meeting with various stakeholders, Dr Dixit shared his thoughts and outlined strategy on fulfilling the task marked out for him by the State leaders during an interaction with ‘The Hitavada’. As Central Government has already decided to invest Rs one lakh crore for plugging the gaps in the infrastructure projects, Maharashtra Government too has aligned its vision and for the Corporation, the scope of work is spread over 22 sectors. No doubt the infrastructure area is quite vast, job of MSIDC is quite big, as the Corporation also has to raise finances for the big ticket projects, apart from executing them within the given time frame. As to raising finances, Dr Dixit said, the work is quite challenging as investors would need to be convinced about assured rate of return and for talks are on with national and international lending agencies. One key element for execution could be Hybrid Annuity formula, given that it has worked well as State investment is crucial in channelising the economy, as it stimulates demand and more importantly, creates jobs.

Underlining an unique coincidence, Dr Dixit said that he has to start from scratch, as he is again employee number 1 in MSIDC. Previously, Dr Dixit was the first one to be appointed as MD of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) and he became nostalgic, saying no one believed Nagpur Metro could be a reality even as his eyes gleamed with pride while describing the experience of what he says was nothing less than dream come true of Nagpurians. “We started from zero and no one had faith that metro project would come-up so fast but our resolve stood firm,” he said while pausing as events of that time came flashing back. For citizens and city leaders, when Nagpur Metro’s commercial operations commenced within the stipulated deadline, it was nothing short of spectacular as till then, everyone was used to stalled and lingering projects,” recalled Dr Dixit. The motto is to dream big, as the vastness of landscape provides excellent opportunity to leave one’s mark, asserted Dr Dixit with firmness.

Right now, two key projects of Public Works Department (PWD), one of development of new highway alignment from Aurangabad to Pune through Katraj and Shirur is on cards. This project is meant for providing direct access to JNPT for the cargo export and another is development of new Pune-Bengaluru highway. Along side, Maharashtra Government has also tasked the Corporation with development of Nagpur-Goa expressway, revealed Dr Dixit during the conversation. In city, the MSIDC is also going to work with local bodies, including Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for development of six markets that have been stalled for long. Further, the project of new Collectorate building is also going to be taken-up by MSIDC. A hard task master, Dr Dixit has a knack for taking up challenges and executing them ensured that State picked him to head MSIDC. In the time to come, MSIDC would also have to identify projects such as port development, gas pipeline network and other areas as India aims to be a developed country by year 2047, which ensures that per capita income of each person is minimum $ 22,000 and for the same, infrastructure projects are the key. The adage ‘Nothing is Impossible’ thus suits Dr Dixit perfectly.
