The Bharatiya Janata Party has registered a historic victory in Madhya Pradesh elections as it has won more than two-third majority after 18 years in the 230-seat Assembly while main opposition Congress party has been restricted to double digit mark. As per the latest figures available from the Election Commission, the saffron party won at 150 seats and Congress at 59 seats and for the remaining seats counting was underway till the filing of this report. Celebrations erupted in the State as the BJP crossed the majority mark comfortably and is set to retain power in the State with a landslide victory. Workers and leaders gathered at party office in Bhopal. On December 3, when the counting started BJP was heading towards a landslide victory on most of the seats since morning, till 3 pm as per real-time data from polling booths, the party has won over 22 seats and was leading in more than 145 seats, while Congress is still in double digits as counting was underway. Till 1.30 pm, BJP’s lead was at 166 seats that of Congress was 66. Assembly elections were held in single phase on November 17 for 230 seats.
 
Bharat Adivasi Party makes inroads: Bharat Adivasi Party has registered victory on one seat while it fielded candidates on 22 seats. It has won Sailana seat of Ratlam district. In this elections, both the main parties BJP and Congress tried hard to woo tribal vote bank. Heavy weight leaders in this election:- BJP leader and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has won from Budhni seat while Congress’s Kamal Nath from Chhindwara. Kamal Nath defeated BJP’s Vivek Bunty Sahu (former district president of Yuva Morcha). Among other big names, Kailash Vijayvargiya of BJP won from Indore 1 seat, State Home Minister and State Government’s spokesperson Narottam Mishra lost the elections against Congress’ Rajendra Bharati from Datia seat, Congress’s Jitu Patwari also lost from Rau. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar won from Dimani constituency. Balveer Singh Dandotiya of the Bahujan Samajwadi Party defeated Tomar. Ghanshyam Chandrawanshi of the BJP has defeated sitting Congress MLA Kunal Choudhary in Kalapipal by 11,765 votes.
 
Chief Minister Chouhan attributes win to PM Modi: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan gave credit for party’s victory in the State to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poll campaign and said that people have immense faith in him. “Our Prime Minister Narendra Modiji is in the hearts of the people of Madhya Pradesh. The State is also in the heart of Modiji. There is immense faith towards him. He held public meetings here and appealed to the people which has touched the people’s hearts.” Senior BJP leader and Union Minister, Prahlad Singh Patel, who has won from Narsingpur, said that 2003 is being repeated in 2023, referring to the last time BJP gained a majority in Madhya Pradesh. Patel thanked party workers for their efforts.
