As the old adage by Diane Lane says, “Well, I can fake my way around some things, but I don’t think I would be good at betting” aptly fits for 48-year-old Derha Ram Yadav, a staunch Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporter from Mahasamund district, whose ‘weird’ picture-pose has gone viral across all the social media forums of Chhattisgarh.
A picture of Yadav, with ‘half-shaved moustache and tonsure’, was trending everywhere on social media since Wednesday noon, as his current state of weird appearance, is being attributed to a electoral bet his loss with his buddy, on the poll outcome of Khallari (41) Assembly seat. He is a resident of village Bihajhar in Khallari Assembly constituency of Mahasamund district.

According to the information received, Yadav, who is an electrician by profession, had locked himself into a bet with his friend, wherein he confidently claimed that BJP candidate Alka Chandrakar would emerge as winner against Congress candidate Dwarikadhish Yadav. Yadav’s overconfidence on BJP candidate victory, prompted him to bigmouth, as he committed to get his ‘moustache and tonsure’ half-shaved in case he lost the bet. Finally, when the poll results were announced, Dwarikadhish Yadav of Congress defeated BJP candidate Alka Chadrakar with 104052 votes, beating Alka Chandrakar of BJP, who polled 66933. After the Congress candidate defeated BJP by a comfortable margin of 37119, a shocked Derha Ram Yadav then realised that he had lost the bet and now was the
time to pay up his high stakes – getting his ‘moustache and tonsure’ half-shaved.

Indeed, Yadav lived up to his words and now his picture is viral everywhere. Khallari Assembly constituency, which falls under the Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency, recorded 82.39 percent voters turning in 2023 assembly elections, wherein the vote share of Congress candidate Dwarikadhish Yadav accounted for 57.86 percent whereas her beaten rival from BJP, Alka Chandrakar vote percentage stood at 37.22 percent. Earlier, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Chunni Lal Sahu won from Mahasamund Lok Sabha (MP) seat with the margin of 90511 votes by defeating Dhanendra Sahu of Congress.
