Three booked for defrauding man of Rs 52 lakh on pretext of admission of daughter to college

MANKAPUR Police, on Monday, booked three persons for allegedly cheating a 41-year-old man of Rs 52 lakh by assuring admission to his daughter for MBBS course at Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu.
Identified as M Vijay Kumar (46), Annu Samuel (41) and Jaicob Thomas (54), the accused are the residents of Vellore, Tamil Nadu.
The victim, Omprakash Chokhelal Vandewar, a resident of Plot No 40, Sumit Nagar, Zingabai Ghat, told police that his daughter was aspiring to become a doctor. On December 4, 2021, he came in contact with the accused who promised to finalise his daughter’s admission at Christian Medical College, Vellore, for the MBBS course. After gaining his confidence, they took Rs 52 lakh from him. They then sent bogus receipts to him from fake mail ids. Later, he realised that he was defrauded by them and lost Rs 52 lakh to them.
Following the victim’s complaint, police registered an FIR against three fraudsters under Sections 406 ,468,471,420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
