Congress Steering Committee has on Friday unanimously decided to authorise All India Congress Committee (AICC) National President Mallikarjun Kharge to nominate the members of Congress Working Committee (CWC), which is the party’s highest decision making body. Kharge has urged the members to freely express their views. Whatever decision you make will be acceptable to all, stated Kharge. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi did not attend the meeting of the Steering Committee giving out a message that national president Kharge is strongly placed and in full command of the party affairs .
Talking to media persons after the meeting of the Congress Steering Committee, AICC General Secretary In-charge of Communication, Publicity and Media Jairam Ramesh said that the meeting of the Steering Committee was held under the chairmanship of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on the first day of the 85th plenary session of Indian National Congress, which has begun at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Nagar, Nava Raipur in Atal Nagar on Friday.
The Steering Committee freely discussed the matters of the CWC elections in the meeting. All the members kept their views in the meeting. Almost 45 members, who were present in the meeting, unanimously decided to empower the Congress National President by authorizing him to nominate the members. There was a consensus over it in the meeting, he said. “We are fully confident that all AICC and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates will support this unanimous decision,” Jairam Ramesh added. Replying to a query, the AICC General Secretary clarified that the Steering Committee has taken such decisions in view of current political challenges.
