Budget session to begin with Governor’s address today

The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly session is all set to start from Wednesday with Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan’s address. Addressing a conference at Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly campus, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Dr Charan Das Mahant said that the 16th session of fifth Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly will be held from March 1 to 24 and the Assembly session would begin with the Governor’s address at 11 am on the first day of the budget session on Wednesday. A total of 14 sittings will be held. The visitor’s gallery in the assembly will be reopened after pandemic and the viewers will be allowed to witness this session, said Dr Mahant.
Financial and government businesses will be transacted during the session. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who is also holding the finance portfolio, will present the State Budget 2023-24 in the House at 12.30 pm on March 6. Third supplementary budget will be tabled on March 1. Discussions on the supplementary budget will be held on March 2 and discussions on the Governor’s address will be held on March 3. Obituary references of former MLAs of undivided Madhya Pradesh Punit Ram Sahu and Radheshyam Sharma will be mentioned in the House during the session. General discussion on the Budget will be held on March 13. Discussions on department-wise demand for grants will be held from March 14 to 22.
The Appropriation Bill will be discussed and passed on March 23. Chhattisgarh Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill-2023 will be tabled in the House during the session. A total of 1590 questions have been received for this session so far, in which there are 812 starred questions and 768 unstarred questions. 1556 questions have been received from the MLAs online and only 34 questions have been received offline. 9 non-official resolutions and one private member bill has been received. 57 call attention motions and 23 notices for zero hour have also been received. Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly will launch its mobile app (Android version) on March 1. The app has been developed by the NIC. Information regarding the budget, questions, the Governor’s address, proceeding of the House will be available through the mobile app, added the Speaker. The newly constructed offices for cabinet ministers located at D Block of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly will be inaugurated on Wednesday, he added. Secretary of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dinesh Sharma was also present at the press conference.
