City’s Spandan Nath is IIT, Bombay’s UCEED exam all-India topper

Spandan Nath, a Class XII student of Bhavan’s B P Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, topped prestigious Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED), conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. He secured All India Rank (AIR) 1. UCEED is considered as one of the toughest examinations for admission to the Bachelor of Design.
Total 13,549 aspirants from across the county appeared in the UCEED-2023 conducted on January 22. Of these, 4,836 were declared qualified. City’s Spandan scored 194.16 marks and topped the country in the exam. Sharing the good news about Spandan’s achievement with The Hitavada, his mother Swapna Nath, said, “Spandan is very much focussed and meticulous. UCEED was scheduled in January, his Class XII examination was in March. As he was supposed to writer UCEED first, he did preparations only for it. Along with UCEED he appeared in Design Aptitude Test (DAT) also. I think he planned his study in a proper manner and that made him score more in UCEED. I am sure he will score well in Board examinations and in DAT too.” Bubbling with happiness, Spandan said, “One of my teachers made me aware that my drawing is good and should go for a career in Design. So, I opted for UCEED, prepared for it and achieved this success.” Though his parents say, the success Spandan achieved is all because of his own efforts and his teachers, this young achiever says, it could not have possible without the support of his parents and sister.
Spandan’s mother Swapna Nath is a homemaker, father Dr Samir is Joint Director of Central Power Research Institute. His sister Koushiki is working with Google at Hyderabad and was a bright student throughout. She completed Computer Science engineering from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT). Spandan reads a lot, especially fiction, that helped him in reaching final of Wiz Spell Bee competition at national level, junior skill finalist. He had secured first rank in national-level English Olympiad when he was in Class 8. He not only reads book but spends quality time outdoors too. He plays football, badminton and other sports.
Spandan wants to do a career in animation, graphic design sector. He has also appeared in Design Aptitude Test (DAT) conducted by National Institute of Design (NID). He is hopeful of securing top position in DAT also. His Class XII examination went well while in Class X, he had scored 93% marks. Spandan’s teacher Anita Roy said, “We are extremely proud of Spandan’s result, as he brought laurels to our city with his exceptional performance in UCEED.”
