CITY’S talented runners —Shadab Pathan and Prajakta Godbole — performed well to qualify for the Khelo India University Games. Shadab and Prajakta, representing Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) at the All India Inter-University Athletics Championship in Chennai, secured fourth positions to make the KIUG grade.
International runner Shadab, a student of Arts College, Sihora, finished the 10,000m race in 29 minutes and 28 seconds. Rohit Kumar of Guru Nanak University won the race while Vivek More of Shivaji University and Devendra Chaudhary of Punjab finished second and third. This was Shadab’s personal best time so far. Prajakta also secured the fourth position in the women’s 10,000 metres race. Prajakta, a student of Women’s College, recorded a time of 36 minutes 19.68 seconds.
Poonam Sonawane emerged winner while Prajakta Shinde and Resham Kevate secured second and third positions, respectively. Riya Dohatre and Sourav Tiwari of Shree Binzani City College reached the finals in the 1500 metres race. Riya, a student of Chakrapani College recorded a time of 4 minutes 46.52 secs.
