THE hockey team of Accountant General, Nagpur (Maharashtra) made it to the final of the IA & AD West Zone Hockey Tournament which is being played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur Rajasthan. The annual tournament is organised by Office of the AG (A&E), Rajasthan (Jaipur). This is after a gap of 14 years that AG Nagpur have made it to the summit clash. In the final they will lock horns with AG Gwalior who recorded a 4-2 win over AG Raipur. The final will be played on Thursday at 3.30 pm.
In the semi-final, AG Nagpur defeated hosts AG Jaipur by four goals to two in an engrossing 60-minute battle.
After playing a barren first quarter, AG Nagpur got their act together and surged ahead in the 21st minute through Avesh Ansari’s penalty corner conversion. Ansari, who has also represented Comptroller and Auditor General of India team in the past, scored the opener to put pressure on the hosts. Five minutes later, Sandeep Nagrulkar doubled the lead and within two minutes Saleem Sayyad made it 3-0 for the Nagpur accountment.
Pramod then converted a penalty corner in the third quarter to give Nagpur AG a handsome 4-0 lead. Jaipur managed to reduce the margin through goals from Amit and Divyanshu in 44th and 60th minutes respectively. In earlier match, AG Nagpur beat AG Rajkot 5-1.
