QIDWAI Football Club, who were relegated to Super Division from Elite last season, had a very brief stay in the lower division as they stamped their authority to clinch JSW Super Division football title. The title win also promoted Qidwai back to Elite Division.
In the final, Qidwai pipped Eagle Football Club in an entertaining summit clash to clinch the title on Wednesday.
In an exciting final, the Lashkaribagh-based club edged out Eagle FC by a second half goal to clinch the crown at Nagpur District Football Association’s Dr Ambedkar Football Stadium in Suyog Nagar. After playing a goalless first half, Qidwai, who got several goal scoring chances in the match, finally tasted success at the fag end of the game when Akash Kharole bulged the net in the 85th minute. The match saw several cautions with Tony Gharjale, Javed Akhtar, Qidwai’s physio Zubair Akhtar, Kharole, Tanvir ul Islam (all Qidwai) and Danish Iqbal getting yellow cards. Iqbal was sent off with a red card for double booking. The winners received a cash purse of Rs 21,000 and a trophy while Eagle FC got Rs 15,000 and trophy. Rahul Mundri (Qidwai) was declared as best player of the tournament and got Rs 7,000.
Other awards: Man of the match: Akash Kharole (Qidwai, Rs 4,000); Best Goalkeeper: Altamash Ansari (Qidwai, Rs 4,000); Best Player of Runners-up team: Faizan Ansari (Rs 3,000). Rinku Singh Choudhary, DGM JSW, Haresh Vora, President, NDFA, Iqbal Kashmiri, Secretary, Atmaram Pandey, Hemant Sahani, Satynarayan Jerpoth, Stanley Gregory, Abid Khan, Adnan Ali, AB Khan and others were present during the prize distribution function.
