The State Board examinations for Class 10th and 12th were conducted recently and this year there has been a noticeable drop in the incidents of use of unfair means during the examination in Nagpur Division. Among the six districts in the Division, Nagpur registered only one case of copying in HSC examination while Gondia district had the most, 38 cases. In Gondia, in SSC examination, there were 11 cases while in HSC 27 cases of malpractice were detected. Wardha was at third place with 24 cases including 8 in SSC and 16 in HSC exam. Chandrapur did not register even a single case in SSC examination while no case was registered in Gadchiroli in HSC examination.
It may be noted that the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education had taken many steps to prevent acts of copying in examinations which seem to have worked.
There has been a drastic reduction in cases of copying, said Shriram Chavan, Joint Secretary of Nagpur Divisional Board. Chavan also praised the teachers who, despite being on strike, completed the evaluation work because of which the results would be out soon. The Board had discontinued the practice of distribution of question papers in advance to students appearing in SSC and HSC examinations. The responsibility has been entrusted to District Collectors.
Nagpur Collector Dr Vipin Itankar, in presence of Chief Executive Officer of Nagpur Zilla Parishad Saumya Sharma had been monitoring the process. Dr Itankar had not ensured deployment of cops so that no case of unfair means takes place. There were flying squads at taluka and district level. The photocoty centres situated within 100 meters vicinity of examination centres were not allowed to function. All these measures and strict monitoring made all the difference.
